- RequiredLanguage: English. English is the main language of instruction in UBC. All potential students are expected to exhibit a minimum level of English before they’re admitted
- EligibleCountries: All world countries.
- Be fresh to UBC, incoming straight from secondary school or post-secondary (university or college).
- Be a foreign student who will be schooling at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). (Changes to your citizenship status will have an effect on your IMES eligibility.)
- Show outstanding academic accomplishment and intellectual promise, and impressive extracurricular and community involvement.
- Should not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.
- Applying to UBC by January 15 will get you automatically considered for the OIS Award.

Please note:Submit documents showing you meet minimum English Language Admission Standard by January 15. You will be selected for this award soon after you get an offer of admission to UBC. Scholarship conclusions are done between mid-March to the end of April each year.
