Good news! International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) Scholarships is currently open. It has been agreed upon that DAAD cooperates with ICIPE by offering up to 6 In-Country/In-Region Scholarships for PhD studies at ICIPE Africa Regional Postgraduate Program in Insect Sciences (ARPPIS) for the intake 2021. International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) Scholarships purposes at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa with the capability to contribute to sustainable growth. This way, scholarships are given for growth-related Master or doctoral studies for persons who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa

About International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) Scholarships: As part of the „In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Program“ DAAD offers scholarships for PhD and Master studies. The platform is financed by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and aims at university staff in the first line, without deserting the public sector demand of academically trained persons.
The target group for scholarships is graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with a Master’s degree who want to pursue PhD courses, either
- in their home nation In-Country scholarships are intended at scholars who study in their home country or in the nation for which they have a residence permit.)
or –
- in another Sub-Saharan African country (In-Region scholarships are aimed at students who want to participate in a study program in a country of their home region (here: Kenya/outside their home country).

Eligibility for International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) Scholarships
Applicants must meet the following DAAD criteria:
- have successfully finished generally a two-year university Master’s degree (doctoral candidates) with beyond average results (at least: Second Class/Upper Division)
- clearly show motivation and strong commitment
- have comprehensive knowledge of the language of instruction
- have generally accomplished their last university degree not beyond 6 years ago at the time of application
- has to be citizens or permanent residents of a Sub-Saharan African nation
- should generally be a) staff member of a public university, b) candidate considered for teaching or research staff recruitment, c) from the public sector and/or d) Alumni of the DAFI-program
Female candidates and contenders from less privileged areas or groups are especially encouraged to partake in the program.
Scholarships are initially given for a year and can be stretched to a maximum of the regular period of study upon receipt of an application for extension. Scholars
must show satisfactory growth before an extension is given.
Please note: ICIPE might have additional requirements for admission to the
institution.
