Description of the German Chancellor Fellowship Awards Application 2021/2022
The German Chancellor Fellowship Program Awards of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is for university graduates with an international view and beginning leadership experience from Brazil, the People’s Republic of China, India, the Russian Federation, South Africa, and the United States.
The program is directed at future decision-makers, multipliers, and thought leaders in a wide range of disciplines, including politics, public administration, and business, as well as society and culture.
This fellowship program will allow them to spend a year in Germany studying fresh answers to today’s global concerns while also expanding their networks. With this initiative, Germany reaffirms its position as a preferred destination for intercultural exchange and a meeting place for tomorrow’s global leaders.
The Federal Foreign Office funds this fellowship program, which is sponsored by the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Each year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation awards up to 60 German Chancellor Fellowships, 10 of which are given to future leaders from each of the six nations listed above. Interested students should apply for programs offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) or other financing agencies if they want to study or train in Germany.
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Humboldt Research Fellowship Program is open to postdoctoral scientists and researchers who are preparing for an academic research project.
Merits of the German Chancellor Fellowship Awards Application 2021/2022
If the expenditures are not covered by a third party, a lump-sum payment for the fellow’s travel expenses.
Allowances for accompanying family members who are staying for a minimum of three months (up to 346 EUR a month for marital partners and up to 289 EUR a month per child).
Flat-rate allowances for accompanying children under the age of 18 during stays of at least three months for single parents (400 EUR a month for the first child and 100 EUR a month for every additional child).
A monthly stipend of 500 EUR will be given to the hosts in Germany for research expenses.
Allowance for a stay at an institute in another European country (but not the fellow’s own country) for one to two months during the fellowship period, if necessary, to ensure the project’s success.
Extensive alumni sponsorship after the successful completion of the stay in Germany, specifically, to facilitate networking with cooperation partners in Germany during the alumni’s subsequent professional careers.
Depending on the applicant’s qualifications and professional experience, the fellowship grant amounts to 2,170 EUR, 2,470 EUR, or 2,770 EUR each month.
Eligible Criteria for the German Chancellor Fellowship
A Bachelor’s, or an equivalent academic degree, completed only twelve years ago. The key date for calculating this twelve-year period is 1 October of the year in which the selection is made.
Initial proven leadership experience. Applicants with a primary academic background should have earned initial leadership experience in addition to their own research activity.
English and/or German language skills.
A letter of motivation.
A project plan; applicants must independently draw up a project plan for a twelve-month stay in Germany and agree to this plan with their intended host before applying.
A well-detailed statement, including a confirmation of research facilities and mentoring agreement, from a host in Germany.
Two references by individuals qualified to comment on the candidate’s professional, personal, and/or academic background.
