- The Hertie School of Governance does not charge tuition fees for its doctoral programs, but strives to make sure that all enrolled applicants have secured the financial means to support the three-year doctoral program in Berlin. It hence offers 10 living cost stipends of 1,250 euros each month (including 100 euros for research and travelling) for a period of three years.

Duration of Program: 3-year, English-language doctoral program (180 ECTS)
Doctoral education at the Hertie School is organized as a structured program. During the course of the first year, PhD researchers get ready for their research and thesis writing with dedicated methods, research design and skills seminars. During the course of the following years an increasing amount of time is allocated to independent work on the thesis.
The school was established in 2004 by the Hertie Foundation, which still stands its major funder. The Hertie School is recognized and endorsed by the state and the German Science Council.
