The Trust Fund Scholarships at Gordon Memorial College was founded in 1899 by public subscription to honor the name of General Charles George Gordon of the British army, who was murdered during the Mahdi’s insurrection in 1885. The Gordon Memorial College is an academic institute in Sudan which was built between 1899 and 1902 as part of Lord Kitchener’s wide-ranging educational reforms, and also titled in honor of Gordon. In 1924, the college was fused with the new Khartoum University, as was the Kitchener School of Medicine.

- A letter of support from the scholar’s course supervisor is vital. Application submissions will not be considered without such a letter.
- When giving grants, preference will be given to those candidates whose chosen courses will empower them to contribute to the skills base of South Sudan or Sudan, and who show their intention to go back to South Sudan or Sudan after their studies.
- Dependent relatives will not be given support.
- Organizations undertaking academic activities and projects in South Sudan and Sudan are also qualified for funding.

The Gordon Memorial College funds are held in Trust and overseen by a group of Trustees and an Executive Committee. The aim of the Fund is to promote educational development in South Sudan and Sudan. Grants are available for educational projects and events in South Sudan and Sudan and for South Sudanese and Sudanese nationals studying for a postgraduate course in the UK who aim coming back to South Sudan or Sudan at the end of their studies. The Trust may also give monetary aid to South Sudanese and Sudanese citizens for the costs of shorter training programs, projects and courses in the UK. Please note that at present due to existing problems in transferring funds to South Sudan and Sudan it is not possible for the Trust to support individual scholars studying in South Sudan or Sudan, nor can we normally provide funds directly to organizations in Sudan / South Sudan.
