The program is fashioned to recognize and prepare future leaders who are Egyptian nationals and who have solid knowledge and skills in science, engineering, business, policy and social sciences. Participating candidates must have professional experience and outstanding skills, and an exceptional passion for sustainable development.
The long-term goal of the program is to cultivate a new squad of entrepreneurial leaders who are capable of filling dire positions in industry, public sector and civil-society organizations in Egypt, and who can successfully integrate technical, business and social skills to add to comprehensive sustainable development in Egypt and beyond.

Eligibility for Al Alfi Foundation Sustainable Development Fellowship at American University of Cairo
- Be Egyptian citizens
- Candidates have to hold a BSc degree from an accredited university. Applicants should also have a educational background in science, engineering, policy, business or social sciences.
- Applicants must hold at least GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivelant of gayed gidan (very good)
- Candidates must be enrolled into the master’s program in sustainable development
- Make available a written statement that outlines their research and/or professional experience, and their future career goals. Financial problems should also be point to in the statement.
Selection: Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview with the selection committee.

Benefits – Al Alfi Foundation Sustainable Development Fellowship at American University of Cairo
The fellowship covers:
- A complete or partial coverage of tuition fees
- Student services and activities fees
- Cost of books
Duration of Fellowship: Fellowships are granted to the most exceptional applicants who are able to finish the program in the shortest amount of time.
Responsibilities of Fellows
- Finish the program in two years and partake in a number of relevant extra-curricular activities (events, seminars, workshops, training sessions, volunteering and community service) in order to enhance their experience and become leaders in sustainable growth. Fellows are assigned a maximum of 12 hours each week of related academic work.
- By accepting this externally financed fellowship, the fellowship beneficiary agrees to respond to any reporting requests gotten from AUC by the deadlines communicated to the awarded fellow. This may include a request for photos or academic progress information to be utilized for reporting purposes, or attendance of fellowship events including any meetings or events with donors as requested by the relevant university entities.
- Mandatory Teaching Assistantship training must be accomplished if the fellow is involved in teaching assistantship duties. The training needs to be completed only once
