The program takes two years and has a specific focus on road safety in developing countries. Scholars are educated to recognize transportation and road safety problems in order to create groundbreaking resolutions by utilizing an integrative approach based on three pillars: the individual (dealing with the human manners in traffic and how to influence it e.g. intentional and unintentional risky behavior such as drunk driving or cognitive impairments), the environment (e.g. creating self-explaining roads and infrastructure that diminishes crash impact) and the society (e.g. societal customs and translation into policy and implementation procedures). Road safety in this training is looked into as a cross-border field, combining elements of psychology, economy, urban planning, environmental studies, engineering and more.

Eligibility for Hasselt University Master of Transportation Sciences Scholarships
Together with the International Course Program, VLIR-UOS monetarily funds English master’s program concentrating on development-related themes. The scholarship patron has specified a number of eligibility prerequisite candidates must fulfill, e.g.:
- The highest age of candidates should be 35 on 1st January 2019
- Only people from theses 31 countries below are qualified for a scholarship
- Africa: Faso, Burundi, Benin, Ethiopia, Burkina Guinea, Cameroon, DR Congo, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Niger

Steps to Apply for Hasselt University Master of Transportation Sciences Scholarships
By February 1st, 2021, we need to have a finished online application and hard copies of legalized degree certificates and academic transcripts by post.
Complete and admissible submissions that reach us before the application deadline alone will be considered. A ranking will be made. The top 12 candidates will get a scholarship. There will also be a waiting list of eligible candidates who ranked between 13 to max. 24. Candidates who have been awarded a scholarship will be notified by VLIR-UOS through email between the end of May and mid June 2021. Candidates who have not been given a scholarship will be contacted by Hasselt University in the same period.
Candidates who are not gievn a scholarship, but are academically worthy, will be granted the opportunity to be admitted to the non-scholarship master in Transportation Sciences.
