Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies (TGCL) Scholarships is currently open.It has been decided upon that DAAD collaborates with Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies by providing up to 5 In-Country/In-Region Scholarships for Master studies at Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies (TGCL) for the intake 2021. Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies (TGCL) Scholarshipsaims at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. To this point, scholarships are given for growth-related Master or doctoral studies for persons who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.

About Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies (TGCL) Scholarships: As part of the „In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Program“ DAAD offers scholarships for PhD and Master studies. The platform is financed by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and purposes at university staff in the first line, without deserting the public sector need of academically trained personnel.
The target groups for award are graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree who want to pursue Master’s courses, either
- in their home nation In-Country scholarships are intended at scholars who study in their home nation or in the country for which they have a residence permit.)
or –
- in another Sub-Saharan African nation
(In-Region scholarships are aimed at students who want to participate in a
study program in a country of their home region (here: Tanzania/outside
their home country).

Eligibility for Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies (TGCL) Scholarships
Applicants must meet the following DAAD criteria:
- have well finished generally a three-year university Bachelor’s degree with above average results (at least: Second Class/Upper Division)
- clearly show motivation and strong commitment
- have comprehensive knowledge of the language of instruction
- have normally finished their last university degree not beyond 6 years ago at the time of application
- must be residents or permanent inhabitants of a Sub-Saharan African nation
- should generally be a) staff member of a public university, b) candidate considered for teaching or research staff recruitment, c) from the public sector and/or d) Alumni of the DAFI-program
Female candidates and contenders from less privileged areas or groups are especially encouraged to partake in the program.
Scholarships are originally given for a year and can be stretched to a maximum of the regular period of study upon receipt of an application for extension. Scholars must show satisfactory development before an extension is given.
Note: Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies (TGCL) might have extra prerequisite for admission to the university.
